About EU-IDC
What is it?
“EU Intervarsity Debate Championship” (EU-IDC) is a debate tournament that aims to encourage university students in Indonesia to:
- increase their awareness and knowledge about the European Union (EU) and its relationship with Indonesia and the wider world
- improve their debating skills.
Who can apply?
- Students:
- enrolled in an undergraduate programme in universities in Indonesia from any fields of studies
- able to debate in English
- Indonesian nationality
- One debate team must comprise 3 debaters (speakers) from the same university
- A university can have more than one debate team
- There will be a maximum of 20 debate teams participating (a total of 60 students)
When/where will it be?
- The tournament will take place on:
- Day 1: Thursday, 17 November 2011 at Usmar Ismail Hall in Jakarta
- Day 2: Friday, 18 November 2011 at Usmar Ismail Hall in Jakarta
What are the benefits?
- The winning debate team will receive a prize of:
1st place team: 3 units of Apple Macbook Air
2nd place team: 3 units of HP Netbook
- A team trophy from the EU will be awarded to each of the 2 grand final teams.
- Medals from the EU will be awarded to each member of the 4 semi final teams.
- All participants will receive a certificate recognising their participation in the EU-IDC from His Excellency Mr. Julian Wilson, Ambassador/ Head of the EU Delegation to Indonesia.
- Each member of the 1st and 2nd place teams will be eligible to undertake a one-week internship at the EU Delegation in Indonesia.
How to participate?
- Interested participants can obtain or download the tournament details from: www.perfect10pr.com/eudebate2011/download.htm or via the online registration form.
- There is no registration and participation fee.
- Each team must submit a 1-page argument (5 short bullet points for and 5 short bullet points against) on the motion “This House believes that Asia and Europe are friends, not rivals”.
- This 1-page argument must be submitted together with the registration form and copies of the team members’ student ID no later than Monday, 17 October 2011 at 12:00 noon by e-mail (eudebate2011@gmail.com) or by online registration.
- Based on the best arguments, there will be a maximum of 20 teams selected to participate in the tournament.
- Evaluation of the arguments will be conducted by the EU Delegation and announcement of the 20 selected teams will be posted on the abovementioned website on Wednesday, 19 October 2011.
